ABOUT THE PHYSIC GARDEN

The Poetry Pharmacy Physic Garden was devised and designed for us by horticultural students Esther Cooper-Wood, Liz Colebrook, Laura Clark and Alex Valk from Winterbourne House and Gardens.  They worked in collaboration with the Poetry Pharmacy to create a peaceful, poetry-filled garden of healing plants and inspiration. Their design follows the geometric structure favoured by Medieval gardeners but has a wilder, softer planting scheme to encourage pollinators.

The Physic Garden was envisaged as a place of peace and creativity, and as such is open only by appointment to allow visitors time to themselves there.  It comes complete with a writing hut, which is stocked with supplies for making herbal infusions picked from the garden, and looks out over the garden and the rooftops of Bishop’s Castle.  The garden is currently a work in progress as we finish planting and adding the final details.

If you would like to visit the Physic Garden, you can book a slot in the Writing Hut below or at this link, available between April and September.  There is no charge for time spent in our garden, but we welcome donations, which will go towards the upkeep of the garden.
